The Grade 10 Extempore Speech Competition 2026 was held on 18th of August 2026 at the Auditorium. The event aimed to encourage students to develop confidence, presence of mind, clarity of thought, and effective communication skills through spontaneous speaking.
The competition commenced at 9:15 a.m with Madam Variechon as the Moderator. The programme began with an invocation by Miss Rongsenkala, followed by the formal introduction of the participants. The students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated commendable confidence and creativity. The judges evaluated the participants on the basis of content, clarity of thought, fluency, pronunciation and enunciation, vocabulary, body language, stage presence and time management.
The competition was conducted in two rounds. In Round 1, students were given general and opinion-based topics, allowing them to express their thoughts and ideas spontaneously. Each participant drew a topic chit, was given 20 seconds to prepare, and then delivered a speech of up to two minutes. The round tested their spontaneity, creativity, and ability to present their ideas within a limited time.
Following Round 1, five participants advanced to the final round: Alovito Sumi, Illivi Zhimo, Kevisenuo Sekhose, Wonjanbeni P. Kikon, and Winnerson Ngouri.
Round 2 featured subject-based topics and was conducted for the shortlisted finalists, who were presented with more challenging topics from Science, Mathematics, and Social Studies that tested their ability to think on their feet, organise their ideas, and deliver their speeches with confidence and fluency. The finalists were given 20 seconds to prepare before delivering their speeches for up to two minutes. The final round tested their subject knowledge, quick thinking, and ability to express their ideas clearly within a limited time.
After the final round, the judges shared their observations and reflections before announcing the results. Following a closely contested competition, the top three winners were declared as follows :
- First Place: Alovito Sumi
- Second Place: Illivi Zhimo
- Third Place: Winnerson Ngouri
The competition was judged by Miss Withiu, Miss Chubatila and Miss Neizope-u, who carefully assessed the participants based on their content, fluency, confidence, clarity, pronunciation, presentation, and ability to respond spontaneously. The judges also provided valuable feedback and encouragement to the participants after the rounds.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and benediction. The successful conduct of the competition was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Academy’s teachers and staff, who supported the event through judging, timekeeping, scorekeeping, technical arrangements, and documentation.
The Extempore Speech Competition for Grade 10 proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students. Beyond competition, it encouraged them to think critically, respond quickly, express their ideas coherently, and speak confidently before an audience. The enthusiastic participation of the students, the healthy spirit of competition, and the constructive feedback from the judges contributed to making the event an engaging, enriching, and successful programme.
The Administrator, Sir Ketoulhou Sekhose, presented the prizes and certificates to the winners and congratulated all the participants for their enthusiastic participation and commendable efforts. A group photograph was taken with the winners and the teachers involved in the event.
The Grade 10 Extempore Speech Competition 2026 was a valuable learning experience that encouraged students to think independently, communicate their ideas effectively, and respond thoughtfully under pressure. It provided young learners with an opportunity to strengthen their speaking abilities and take an important step towards becoming articulate and capable communicators.
