Educational outings play a vital role in enriching a child’s learning by providing opportunities to explore and understand the world beyond the classroom. Such experiences help students gain practical knowledge, develop curiosity, and foster teamwork and social interaction. With this objective in mind, an educational outing was organized for the students of Class 1 to the ICAR Research Complex, Medziphema, on 22nd May 2026 (Friday).
A total of 50 students enthusiastically participated in the outing. They were accompanied by their class teachers, Miss Temsurenla and Miss Temjenjungla, along with Ma’am Ngausile, Sir Ahadur, Sir Imkong, and two helpers. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with an enjoyable learning experience and an opportunity to learn more about agriculture, science, animals, and nature.
The journey began with a prayer, seeking safety and blessings for a successful trip. The students were thrilled and excited throughout the journey. As they travelled, they chatted happily with their friends and admired the beautiful mountains along the way. Many students excitedly exclaimed, “Wow, look at the mountains! So many mountains!” while some shared that the scenery reminded them of their villages. Their excitement and curiosity added joy to the journey.
Upon reaching the location, the staff members of ICAR warmly welcomed the students and teachers. The place was serene, beautiful, and surrounded by nature, creating a peaceful learning environment. Four skilled staff members eagerly guided the students around the campus and patiently explained various aspects of farming, animal care, and agricultural practices in a simple and engaging manner.
The first stop was the cattle shed, where students learned about the two types of cows reared at the centre. They were introduced to the Thutho, the local cattle breed of Nagaland, mainly reared for meat, and the Jersey cattle, a British breed reared for dairy production. The students listened attentively and showed great interest in learning about the differences between the breeds.
The students were then taken to the chicken coop and rabbit hutch, where they had a delightful hands-on experience feeding the rabbits with grass hay. This activity brought immense joy to the children, and many eagerly participated with excitement and curiosity.
Another interesting learning experience was the exploration of vermicomposting, where students learned how nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioners are produced through earthworms breaking down organic waste. The students were especially excited to touch the worms and soil, turning the learning experience into a fun and memorable activity. They were happily learning through direct observation and hands-on participation.
The visit also included an exploration of Azolla water fern preservation, where students learned about its importance and uses. They observed different kinds of plants, and learned how the crops are cultivated and grown. This gave them a better understanding of farming and plant growth.
The students further explored the aquarium, where they observed different varieties of fish found in the state. Another exciting highlight of the outing was seeing the Mithun, the state animal, where students learned that the male and female barns were kept separately. The children were fascinated by the animals and eagerly listened to the explanations given by the staff.
Apart from the educational experiences, the students also had a wonderful time at the park within the campus. They played, relaxed, and enjoyed moments of fun with their classmates. Later, they sat together and enjoyed their lunch, happily sharing their tiffins with one another. This act of sharing strengthened friendship and added warmth to the outing experience. A group photograph was also taken to capture the memorable moments before concluding the visit.
Overall, the educational outing was a fun-filled, enriching, and memorable experience for the students. It helped them develop a deeper understanding of agriculture, animals, science, and nature while encouraging curiosity and experiential learning beyond the classroom. It was truly an ideal learning experience that the students will cherish for a long time.
