The Grade 5 Extempore Speech Competition 2026 was held on 7th August 2026 at the Academy Auditorium, providing an enriching platform for students to develop spontaneity, clarity of thought, effective communication, and public-speaking skills. A total of 16 enthusiastic participants took part in the competition, demonstrating their ability to think on their feet and articulate their ideas effectively.
The programme was hosted by the Grade 5 class teachers, Miss Prema and Miss Withiunile. The competition was adjudicated by Miss Neizope-u, Miss Rongsenkala, and Miss Keneiwenuo. The programme commenced with an invocation, followed by the introduction of the participants and the judges.
The competition was conducted in two rounds. In Round 1, participants were given general topics. Each participant drew a topic chit, was given 20 seconds to prepare, and then delivered a speech of up to two minutes. The round tested their spontaneity, creativity, confidence, and ability to present their ideas within a limited time.
Following Round 1, five participants advanced to the final round: Neoniing Khartu Monsang, Akina Yudella Zhimomi, Thejavizo Yano, Jungtina Longchar, and Nimughali.
Round 2 featured subject-based topics from Science, English, Mathematics, and Social Studies. The finalists were again given 20 seconds to prepare before delivering their speeches for up to two minutes. The final round tested their subject knowledge, quick thinking, and ability to express their ideas clearly and confidently within a limited time.
After the final round, the judges shared their observations and reflections before announcing the results. The top three winners were:
- First Place: Neoniing Khartu Monsang
- Second Place: Akina Yudella Zhimomi
- Third Place: Thejavizo Yano
Following the announcement of the results, the three winners shared their experiences and reflections, adding an inspiring dimension to the programme.
The Administrator, Sir Ketoulhou Sekhose, presented the prizes and certificates to the winners and congratulated all the participants for their enthusiastic participation and commendable efforts. A group photograph was also taken with the winners and the teachers involved in the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and benediction. The successful conduct of the competition was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Academy’s teachers and staff, who supported the event through judging, timekeeping, scorekeeping, technical arrangements, and documentation.
The Grade 5 Extempore Speech Competition 2026 was a valuable learning experience that encouraged students to think independently, communicate their ideas effectively, and respond thoughtfully under pressure. It provided young learners with an opportunity to strengthen their speaking abilities, build confidence, and take an important step towards becoming articulate and capable communicators.
